From One Reader to Another
June 3rd, 2008My disclaimer, right up front: I have no financial or personal relationship with Dr. Mehmet Oz, author and cardiologist.
Still, I advise you: run, don’t walk, to your nearest bookstore and buy Dr. Oz’s amazing book YOU: Staying Young, The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty.
This book may change-or save your life.
Yes, it’s that good. The pages overflow with the best scientific info available about “The Major Agers” (and who, among us, isn’t aging?). But Dr. Oz and his co-author Dr. Michael F. Roizen offer knowledge, practical advice and hope for living a high-quality life right up until we die. No promises that we’ll live forever or that we’ll look 25 at 85. These guys respect their readers.
Besides making new findings in biology understandable for most of us, The Owner’s Manual boasts lots of imaginative illustrations. Imaginative, as in comic-book-like. The drawings visually capture the basics of the concepts presented.
Designed like some of the best web sites, the book has highlighted boxes, almost like pop-ups, with “Factoids” and tidbits relevant to topics in a given chapter. “The Fourteen-Day Extended Warranty” gives tips on creating a personalized plan with action steps.
Did I mention that touches of sly, often silly, humor help the scientific info go down easily? No heartburn, upset stomach, headache or other side effects.
Dr. Oz appears often on Oprah. If, like me, you don’t watch her show and like having a doctor in the house 24/7, go buy the book.
Post-Thought: Do you make notes or highlight passages in your favorite books?
